Particulars, my system information app, has been updated to version 64. The biggest change is that I had to replace the crash reporter due to the retirement of Microsoft’s App Center. After March 31st, crashes in version 63 and earlier cannot be reported.
There are two other changes for organizations.
- A new setting allows organizations to disable crash reporting. This requires managed preferences.
- Disabling the Public IP particular in the Network Detail Level stops the lookup of the public IP.
These changes mean that it’s now possible to deploy Particulars in stricter network environments than in previous releases. In fact, Particulars on Apple Silicon can be configured to not make any network connections. See the revised Network Connections documentation for further information on connections and how to disable them.
Changes to guidance for enterprise deployment
It has been reported to me that in macOS 15, MDMs can no longer update Mac App Store apps that are running. As Particulars runs 24/7, organizations are advised to use the installer package and not the Mac App Store version from Apple Business/School Manager. See the updated deployment documentation for further details.
